Job Description:

  • Hands-on prototype development and performing preventative maintenance on tools and dies.
  • Participate as assigned in all phases of die-making projects from start to finish, including milling, grinding, polishing, and assembly.
  • Must be familiar with various types of dies, including:  Blanking, Forming, Progressive, Compound.
  • Use Vertical Mills, Lathes, and Grinders, etc. with little to no supervision.
  • Set up First Article Inspection and operate with QC tolerance of +/-.0005.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, engineering drawings, metal properties, layout and machining procedures to determine the most efficient and accurate machining methods and sequence of operations to produce parts.
  • Set up and fabricate complex precision parts to specifications using manual machine tools such as lathes, mills, shapers or grinders.
  • Inspect and verify conformance to specifications on first article machined parts.
  • Monitor the machining process, measure parts during fabrication operations and adjust settings and operations to ensure product conformance to all applicable specifications.
  • Be able to set up and make misc. gages and fixtures to support production in welding, stamping, turning, milling.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections on assigned machines and perform routine maintenance tasks on plant equipment.
  • Completion of miscellaneous duties and projects as directed by your supervisor / manager / leader.

 

Knowledge, Skills Experience:

  • Experience with manual machine tool operation.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical principles, metal properties including heat treating; layout and set-up techniques; and machining procedures.
  • Able to read and correctly interpret advanced engineering drawings including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances.
  • Experience in care and maintenance of industrial machine tools.
  • Able to interact with managers, supervisors and co-workers in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Organized, attentive to detail and able to prioritize tasks to ensure meeting deadlines for completion of projects.
  • Work efficiently both on independent basis and as part of a team.
  • Maintain a personal and professional `continuous improvement` philosophy.
  • Ability to solve problems with attention to root cause within your area of responsibility.
  • Ability to calculate dimensions and accurately measure and test parts to ensure conformance to specifications.
